Responding to Concerns About an AD&D Insurance Offer
We have received questions and feedback from members who shared their concerns about the nature and authenticity of a recent mailed offer from BECU for accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance.
About the Offer
This is a valid offer from BECU in partnership with Franklin Madison Group, LLC and is underwritten by Minnesota Life Insurance Company. Although it was legitimate, we understand that the materials in the mailed packet caused confusion and did not align well with our brand standards and member expectations for BECU marketing and communications.
What Happened
The packet members received in the mail from BECU was created and sent by our partner. It contained promotional materials that feature our logo and resemble important BECU notices and documents. Members expressed concern and disappointment because these materials were inconsistent with the attributes that define our brand and those typically reflected in BECU marketing.
We understand that members found it difficult to determine if the mailed promotion was part of a scam and many felt it was deceptive and in contrast to BECU's reputation for honesty and integrity. In the future, we will more carefully scrutinize the marketing approaches used by our third-party partners.
Our Commitment
We apologize for not taking a more influential and assertive stance in questioning the creative approach of this campaign. It's important that our members can recognize the difference between BECU promotions and important BECU account documents like forms, letters and notices.
As a member-owned financial cooperative, BECU is deeply committed to helping improve our members' financial health. It was in that spirit that we established this partnership to provide members with access to insurance in the event of an accident. For information about the features and benefits of this coverage, please visit our AD&D insurance page.
Our greatest responsibility is to protect our members' privacy and maintain the trust they place in BECU. We value your feedback - it helps us understand where we can improve, and we will learn from this experience. In response to what we heard, we have reinforced our brand and design standards to prevent similar misalignment in any future partnered promotions or direct mail campaigns.
We encourage you to review our Online Privacy Notice to learn more about the steps BECU takes to protect your privacy and personal information.
